Best Time for Dolphin Fishing in South Florida is Now!
Mahi-Mahi, Dolphin, Dorado. All different names for the same fish. They are here! Like clock work they come to
When a frigate bird spots fish, it will start flying in lazy circles over the spot, very high up. The frigate will continue circling until the fish come up to feed or they go deep and the frigate loses sight. When you see the frigate bird start circling close to the water or maybe come right down on the water, this is when you want to get to that spot fast and get some baits out. This means the fish have come up to feed and the frigate is there to pick up the scraps or chase down a tasty flying fish. The frigate will sometimes stop circling and fly off in a straight line. This is a good time to pick up lines and follow the frigate bird.
Sargassum is either brown in color or dark green. In huge masses, it is a free-floating plant found in pelagic waters. Air bladders, also refered to as air pockets, are especially important for this plant for it to stay afloat in the ocean. The Sargassum plant is home to many animals and provides food for bait fish and thus predators can be found under the weedlines of the Sargassum.
Floating debris work the same way. Baitfish and other life seek shelter under the shade of the debris. Weather it be a piece of wood, a pizza box or simply a barrel or bucket floating in the water. It can be a whole echo system from the smallest animal life to the predatore that seeks them.

Largest Amber Jack Seen In Ages Caught Off Hollywood Beach
I took three friends out on a trip with Capt. Ralph on Wed. 2/17/10. Capt. Ralph told me that the Sail Fish bite had slowed down, and it was evident listening to the talk on the radio. None of the boats were hooking up. After working the wrecks for a while, with little current, and no bites, Capt. Ralph put up the kites. Within 15 minutes we had a ten foot T-Head shark circling the goggle eyes. He tasted one, but Capt. Ralph cound not entice him to the boat to take the speedo on the wire leader. He came within 15 feet of the boat and disappeared.
After a while Capt. Ralph pulled in the kites and hit another wreck. We hooked up back, to back, to back, with three Amberjacks going to 40 pounds. Just when it seemed as though the bite was over, the rod bent again and Devon was fighting a fish for an unusually long time. Finally, colored appeared in the water and I couldn't belive my eyes. At the end of the leader was the largest Amberjcak I had ever seen. Capt. Ralph grabbed the leader and hoisted it into the boat. It was every bit of 100 pounds. My three buddies were happy with the trip and asking when we were going fishing again. Capt. Ralph, you did it again. Nice job, and thank you so much!
